When I was young, two things happened that changed my life. My grandparents gave each grandchild $5,000, and my Dad announced that my we had a net worth over a million dollars. I remember feeling so proud. My parents were millionaires!
Looking back, my Dad taught by example. He didn't lecture us on compounding interest; instead, he showed us how they lived off my Mom’s paycheck so they could save his. They bought a fixer-upper in a neighborhood they loved and spent years improving it. They provided a life full of experiences, free from the distraction of financial worry, and built a nest egg that took care of them for life.
When I moved out, my other grandfather gave me his legendary advice on budgeting: the envelope system. He told me to keep the envelopes in the refrigerator so they’d survive a fire. Cold hard cash!
Building a Real Estate Powerhouse
That foundation of financial literacy served my entrepreneurial spirit perfectly. When I met my husband, we dove head-first into the world of real estate. We are fast learners and even faster actors. My husband founded The CAZA Group, GRID Investor Network, and GAIN—building a massive ecosystem for agents and investors. Meanwhile, I built and owned a property management company with over 300 units before serving as the CFO for all of our real estate offices.
I saw firsthand what it takes to run a high-volume real estate business from the inside out. I knew the numbers, the margins, and the tax strategies that separated the "busy" agents from the "wealthy" owners.
The Pivot That Changed Everything
And then, I stepped away. For three years, I moved back to my hometown of St. Louis to care for my Mom as she passed. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but because of the financial systems we had in place, I had the freedom to be exactly where I needed to be: by her side. That time remains the most peaceful place in my heart.
